Since its start in 1953, Schonstedt Instrument Company has shipped over 250,000 magnetic locators to customers worldwide.  In recent years, these instruments have proven themselves an indispensible tool for munitions response and humanitarian demining work.  The commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) products are fluxgate magnetometers using patented, ultra-sensitive and ultra-stable HeliFlux® sensors.  The instruments are handheld, lightweight and self-contained (no separate detection head), with sensors, controls and indicators built into the unit. They are easy to use and reliable, providing audible and/or visual indication of the target's presence.

Schonstedt is a 56-year-old manufacturing company, which is 100% owned by its 32 employees. It designs, manufactures, quality controls, markets and services its line of magnetic locators under one roof at its headquarters in Kearneysville, WV, about 70 miles from Washington, DC.
